The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA, 30ml

Lactic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that provides superficial exfoliation of the epidermis to smooth the structure of the skin and add lustre to it. The formula has been enriched with purified Tasmanian pepper extract, which provides skin comfort, reducing the sensitivity associated with the use of acids. The formula has been additionally enriched with hyaluronic acid, which provides multi-faceted hydration. A milder 5% formula is also available.

The pH of this formula is about 3.8, and the lactic acid has a pKa value of 3.8. The value of pKa is the most important aspect to consider when making formulas with acids, because pKa means the availability of acid. When pKa is close to pH, there is a perfect balance between salt and acidity, which maximises the effectiveness of the acid and reduces the risk of irritation. Higher pH values in this case would increase the salt concentration, which, contrary to appearances, would make the formula even more irritating than in the case of a more acidic formula

Contraindications: Lactic acid should not be used on sensitive, flaky or damaged skin. You should familiarise yourself with additional information about sun protection and other warnings contained in the attached instructions.

Notes:

The Tasmanian pepper derived in this formula is of plant origin and as such will change colour depending on the season. This colour variability may be seen in the formula from time to time.

Exfoliating acids can quickly bring visible benefits, but for a milder effect, we recommend the use of intermediate forms of skin exfoliation. Information on this subject can be found in the document NIOD Precursor of Acid-Free Acids.

Although lactic acid can produce quick visible benefits, we generally suggest intermediate forms of skin exfoliation in favour of direct forms like this formula because of the potential inflammation and acid-related sensitivity.

How to use:

Use once a day, preferably in the evening. It can be diluted with other preparations to reduce potency until skin tolerance is achieved. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation persists, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
